Jose de San Martin

San Martin (1778-1850)



Jose de San Martin was born on February 25, 1778, in Yapey'u, in eastern Argentina. His father, Don Jaun de San Martin, was the governor of the department. His mother, Do-a Gregoria Matorras, was the niece of a conqueror of the Chacos wild forests. In 1786 he moved to Spain with his family. There he studied in the Noble Seminary of Madrid and in 1789 he initiated his military career in the regiment of Murcia. He was a major instrument in Latin America because he helped to kick the Spanish out which helped to protect the Latin American countries.
